Multi Academy Trust Governance

New Education Trust formed on 1st February 2018 when Bengeworth CE Academy joined Bretforton Village School as a new Multi Academy Trust, changing its name in 2025 to reflect growth and composition as a separate entity to its schools. The Trust works with a number of academies, schools and partners within Worcestershire and Gloucestershire as an impactful school effectiveness and education improvement organisation. More information is available at www.neweducationtrust.org

New Education Trust serves three academies and their communities:

Bengeworth CE Academy (Burford Road and Kings Road)

Bretforton Village School

Church Lench CE First School

New Education Trust is an Exempt Charity and a Company registered at Companies House, number 08943457.

If you are a school leader or governor seeking more information about partnership working, school support or joining our Trust, please email any enquiry to vacancies@bengeworth.worcs.sch.uk

The Charity has four 'Members' of the Charitable Trust.

These are the equivalent to Shareholders in a company to enact the Memorandum of Association. They have powers to appoint or remove Directors and receive the annual audited accounts, with positions ongoing until resignation:

Mr Andrew Martyr-Icke

Mr Simon Hill (on behalf of the Diocese of Worcester)

Mrs Julie Bourdon-Pierre

Mrs Margaret Percival

Acting on behalf of the Members is a Board of Directors (sometimes referred to as Trustees) who oversee the Trust in accordance with company law, responsible for the financial stability and added educational value that the Multi-Academy Trust provides for its schools. The Directors oversee the business carried out by the Chief Executive, ensure compliance and approve the strategic decisions for the future direction of the Multi-Academy Trust.  We call this layer of governance the Trust Board.

The Trust Board cascades its duties through a 'Scheme of Delegation' to a Finance, Audit and Personnel Committee, a Risk Audit Committee, a Performance Committee and any other special committees as required, which report back directly to the Board during the year.

Each academy has a Local Governing Body responsible for overseeing overall school effectiveness under the leadership of the Headteacher and school staff, reporting back as a subcommittee of the main Board.

Recognising the individual character and context of each school is an integral feature of our approach to governance. School Governors represent each school as an individual organisation, with its own identity and a history rooted within the cultural heritage of the local community.
