Autumn Curriculum Overview – EYFS


Our topic for Autumn 1 is ‘All About Me’

Some of the things we will be covering…

-         Our body

-         Bones

-         Babies and growing

-         Healthy eating

-         Our families

-         The world around us (Local environment)

Our topic for Autumn 2 is ‘Winter Wonderland’

Some of the things we will be covering…

-         Firework safety

-         Bonfire night

-         Diwali

-         Snow and ice (Weather)

-         Christmas and the Nativity story


In Reading we are working towards…

-         Looking at a variety of books and holding them carefully and turning the pages carefully

-         Say what is happening in the story (beginning, middle, end)

-         Identifying the characters in story books

-         Predicting and changing the end of the stories

-         Hearing and saying initial sounds in words

-         Saying the sounds letters make in our alphabet

-         To segment and blend CVC words; e.g. sat, pat, pan

-         Read 5 tricky words by sight; I, no, go, to, the

In Writing we are working towards…

-         Correct pencil grip

-         Hearing and writing initial sounds in words

-         Correct letter formation for Phase 2 letters

Set 1: s, a, t, p
Set 2: i, n, m, d
Set 3: g, o, c, k
Set 4: ck, e, u, r
Set 5: h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss

-         Writing CVC words; e.g. sat, pat, pan


In Number we are working towards…

-         Identifying numerals 0 – 20

-         Touch count 10 objects and beyond

-         Match numeral to quantity/value correctly (0-20)

-         Say what is one more and one less of a given number (0-10)


In Shape, Space and Measure we are working towards…

-         Identifying and saying the mathematical names for 2D shapes (circle, square, oblong/rectangle, triangle, oval, pentagon, hexagon)

-         Sorting 3 lengths by size from the shortest to the tallest

-         Knowing our days of the week in the correct order

-         To complete a repeating pattern

-         Knowing the difference between heavy and light and also ‘the same’
